Fairness for Fairview members protest at the 2008 Marist College graduation ceremony. For additional information on Fairness for Fairview, please visit http://www.geocities.com/teamf... or http://www.nodccdorms.blogspot... PLEASE NOTE: I never intended to make comments about this video. I wanted to let people discuss this amongst themselves & I do not want to censor anyone's comments as I feel everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm not here to say that anyone's opinion is wrong, however, I would like to respond to some of the comments made about this video. The protest at the Marist College graduation was held on public property across the street from the campus. At no time did the protest interfere with the graduation ceremony. Many parents who attended graduation were unaware of the problem & were interested as to why people were protesting. Marist College has been expanding at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, the fire department which is responsible for responding to alarms at the college is not. It has been estimated that emergency calls to Marist College were well over $400k last year. To offset that cost, Marist contributed only $110k. The shortfall then lands on the shoulders of the 2,224 taxable properties within the fire district. We have a large number of senior citizens and young families who live in this district that are struggling to make ends meet. Some say that if we don't like it, we should move. If that solution was so simple, I'm sure that many would. The housing market being the way that it is would make it impossible for some to break even and many would sell at a loss if they sold their property. I would like to make it clear that I do not think that all Marist students are drunkards and spoiled. Sadly there are quite a few in the student population who give the school a black eye with their partying. My guess is this is what a large number of Fairview residents see and this is the reason for the negative comments about the student body. Marist Administration has been asked to add a safety fee of $1 per day per student to defray the cost to the fire department. Marist hasn't responded to the request. If we can get current students as well as Alumni to help us with this simple request, then maybe Marist will listen. We are not anti-education! We want to make sure that EVERYONE is SAFE in the fire district! If you are a Marist student or faculty member who is interested in helping us to get the message out, please send me a message via YouTube. Thank you for your time.
